Climate-friendly products and services.

One of the main challenges we face is to launch immediate measures aimed at reducing harmful greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2). As such, we refocused our CR activities in 2008. Our target is to play a pioneering role on the way to a low carbon societyInfo. The environmentally-friendly design and use of our network infrastructure is an important step in this direction. In addition, we are one of the largest ICTInfo companies in the world to invest in digital technologies. After all, we believe ICT can make a major contribution towards conserving energy and CO2 emissions, whether in commercial and industrial processes or with private consumers. These aims were confirmed by the "Smart 2020" study by the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSIInfo) published in June 2008, which reported that the deployment of innovative ICT solutions can save 7.8 gigatons of CO2 by the year 2020.

Significant savings potential through ICT.
Across the globe, Deutsche Telekom offers its customers a wide range of solutions that enables them to save valuable resources and put sustainability into practice. T-Systems in particular has been a pioneer in this field. For years, Deutsche Telekom’s business unit has been conducting research, developing and using innovative solutions to replace processes that are costly in terms of energy and materials, thereby tapping into substantial savings potential.
  • T-Systems' telematics solutions, for example, help to reduce traffic jams by up to 20 percent and significantly decrease harmful vehicle emissions. The systems analyze the current traffic situation and calculate important factors for vehicle operation, including driving time and distance, fuel consumption, and even vehicle weight and accelerator position. All this information is passed on to the traffic management center, where it can be used to optimize carrying capacity and route planning. It can also give drivers tips for optimizing their driving habits.
  • The Managed Office Output service from T-Systems enables customers to consolidate end devices such as faxes, printers, scanners, and photocopiers and use them more efficiently. Thanks to this service, each individual piece of equipment can cater to the needs of up to five times as many workplaces. Companies using this application are thus in a position to eliminate up to 60 percent of their hardware.
  • And they can achieve further savings in energy and paper consumption with the use of ICT.
